| Comments: | Watched Malcolm staying up to the east of take off, then Carl & Phil maintaining. Flew over but beneath them and stayed quite low for a long while. Gradually descending down towards the bottom, I parked myself behind the ploughed field in front of the River Dee. At 600' below take off, I caught a bit of weak lift which strengthened at I got up to take off height and above. I eventually pulled out at over 5000' and set off after Phil & Carl and Dave Edwards & Matt. Continuing over to the Gyrn along the sunny side of a good cloud I heard that Myles had connected with a bubble and was on his way. I was 6k behind Carl and 8k ahead of Myles - I waited for him and chose the leading edge of a new cloud, about 5k south of Llansilin. Slowly he appeared, a tiny orange dot at first, then he was right behind me and off we set. 5 or 6 k later we passed a small town with a big factory on the outskirts - thatr looks familiar says I - bloody hell thats my factory in Llanfyllin ! At about 30k (?) we caught up with Dave and Matt who were flying superbly as a team and shared some patchy lift with them and the cloud streets were disapearing but, even as late in the day as it was, the sky was still working. Near Llanfair Careinion, another Hang Glider pilot suddenly appeared who we worked out was a visiting pilot from the Peaks, flying very well on a Litespeed. He pressed on whilst I used weak lift about a wooded gully north of llanfair, and Myles pressed on to some cut hay fields near the village. I said to myself, with the day being so late, I wasn't goiong to leave what I had and eventually it took me up to 3500 before dissapating (or me losing it more likely ). Myles didn't catch anything and landed near the town at 36k. Here i made a mistake. Being higher than Dave and Matt, I glided off towards some moors, rather than using them as indicators ( read my boot camp notes !!!) and after another 5-6 k found myself slowly descending. I flew out to the moors, decided I wouldn't cross them and headed back to land at the village of Adfa, 2k back from my turn at 44k. As I was derigging, overhead gently floated Dave & Matt. |
