| Comments: | The flying was ok on the hill with reasonable climbs but really strong sink when the thermals had past, the sky didn?t look that great but as the day past there was the odd cu about. I?d just had a low save from the bottom landing field and landed back on top. After a short while Frank pointed out a nice cloud in front of take off, so I followed him into the air. Frank was a little higher than me but I eventually caught him up as we climbed away from the hill. We hadn?t climbed that high before the lift got a little scrappy and it seemed that Frank always got the worst of it. At one point just behind Moel y Parc (wind from SE) I was down to 1300? asl and looked back to see Frank in a stonking climb. Luckily 5 seconds later I found a nice little 2 up but it seemed that I?d climb to 1800? and be hitting the inversion. search around lose some height then climb back up to the same 1800? I bobbed along like this having now seen Frank land next to a ploughed field, for the next few thermals until I found a stronger 4 ? 6 hfpm climb over the A55 which took me up to 3580? looking at my GPS I could see that the wind was directly behind me as I followed the A55 and I assume the thermals along the way where coming from it. I cut the bend out of the road a little but the glider seemed to want to head back towards the road, I was getting a little concerned why the glider wouldn?t fly straight when I realised that the right trimmer was half on DOOO! Arriving over Abergele my forward speed dropped from 50kmh to 34kmh so I had an idea that the sea breeze was having an influence . As I arrived at the rocks above the coast road with maybe 1300? or less I flew over the first quarry on top of the hill but didn?t have enough height to fly over the next so I flew out above some seagulls which were soaring above the road I was still going down but only just so I went to min sink and I was in zeros so I just flew along the A55 at 850? for the next 10km what a blast. I started losing height after the pier as I was pointing into wind more and more as I followed the bay round. Lots of people were amazed to have seen a paraglider soaring round the bay but none more than me. Thanks to Pete Cook for the retrieve |
