| Comments: | A very buoyant day, but difficult to commit with climbs becoming very slow higher up, and no clouds early on. Finally went quite at 2:30 when I got within gliding range of a cloud. Clouds worked really well, then a long glide put me quite low at Oswestry (again). Cloud here worked a treat, and I was soon back at base. Decided I could try and make it back to T/O. Then changed my mind and headed South. At the top of this climb, I could see smoke being dragged North by a thermal ahead of me, and decided that I really should try to get back. Another longish glide for a cloud, and I met up with Pete Cook, and gained a couple of thousand feet to get back in the comfort zone. Back on the bar heading towards Chirk, I picked up another reasonable climb before getting uncomfortably low approaching the factory. Got the save I was looking for, from 350ft below T/O, back up to 4000 and set off full of confidence. Didn't turn in a couple of areas of lift - and only just made it in to land on the face below T/O. The wind was now very Easterly along the face, so didn't give the lift I was expecting.Probably one of my most satisfying flights for a good while. Really must remember to pee each time I land though. I was bursting from the time I first got to base ...I also need to speak with Carl, and pick his brains about where are good places to find lift - he knows the place pretty well by now I think ! |
