Penmaenbach Flying Site GuideQuick referencePlease read the general information about all sites in conjunction with this guide.
Site DescriptionPenmaenbach is a large headland overlooking Conwy Estuary to the east of the Menai Straits. It offers a half-mile long soarable ridge facing north east, and if the wind is right, a 'jump off' to an adjacent north facing ridge of Mynydd y Drel (Conwy Mountain). This ridge is about one mile long, running towards the town of Conwy. ParkingThe parking area is at the head of the Sychnant Pass at map reference SH750770. The parking area is quite small, and the take-off site must be approached on foot: do not attempt to take vehicles up the track towards the site. CarryUpAbout three quarters of a mile distance and a 300ft / 100m gain of height. Keep to the track. Takeoff and Top LandingThe take-off area is at map reference SH750781. Top landing is possible on the open area behind take off, but serious rotor has been experienced. Bottom LandingBottom landing is on the beach in the general area of map reference SH755785. Do not leave it too late to break away from the hill for bottom landing as there is a lot of serious stuff to fly over a dual carriageway, a railway and a campsite. Obviously, the landing area is restricted at high tide. If flying the north facing Conwy Mountain, the bottom landing options become even more limited. Site Map
